There is a wide variety of outdoor and indoor sports available in the vibrant city of Christchurch. In particular it's known for its world-class surfing.

In addition to surfing, the city's beaches offer excellent snorkelling, sea kayaking and the chance to swim with dolphins. On land, there are large numbers of lovely cycling and walking paths scattered throughout the city, as well as numerous gyms and exercise facilities.

Cricket and rugby are both extremely popular spectator sports in the city and regular matches are held at both Jade Stadium and Christchurch Park. The city has a particularly rich rugby history and the Christchurch Football Club is the longest running rugby club in New Zealand.
